I Wish I'd Written This

READ THIS!

Why We're Not Singing in Church

AMEN! This is an article I've meant to write for two or three years. This guy said it better than I could. Put it in all caps to SHOUT at every so-called worship leader in America!

Worship in most modern Baptist churches (I am a Baptist)  is abominable. The effort to "i
mprove" it or make it "more relevant" has ruined it.

Particularly, the unnecessary hybridation of classic hymns is insulting and spiritually tone-deaf and condescending to us senior adults. Sing the modern worship songs, and even do the old hymns with a band and lively rhythm/speed, BUT DON'T MESS WITH THE TUNE OR LYRICS! I want to sing at least ONE song each service from start to finish without being unpleasantly and unexpectedly jolted by a new inserted verse, refrain, or bridge.

OK, end of rant. Mr. Lamm said it quite well.

Things go in cycles. I may not live to see it, but I'll be glad when this one's over.

FATHER Knows Best (Or, God Is Good ... All the Time)

Proverbs 16:9 NAS
The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

OUR PLAN was to celebrate our 44th anniversary with a $100 lobster sacrifice at a favorite restaurant. It's a tradition. I had two particularly good paychecks in a row, we are careful with our spending, and my baby deserved it, right? Right.

GOD'S PLAN was a little different. What HE knew, while we were making our plan, was that 1) we had a Jeep gas tank to completely refill; 2) the lawn guy was going to choose today to do our yard; 3) that we needed to give our super-busy daughter and son-in-law a little stress-relief by taking the grandsons for a night-- tonight (and grandsons like to EAT!); and 4) it's time for our faithfully-observed vehicle oil change & service on Monday (these Jeeps don't get over a quarter-million miles by accident).

TIME & MONEY. Where the rubber meets the road. We can insist on our way, and plow ahead... or we can let a loving, WISE Heavenly Father nudge us in a little different direction. The right direction.

GOD IS GOOD ... all the time.

GOD IS WISE ... all the time.

GOD IS RIGHT ... all the time.

FATHER KNOWS BEST ... all the time.

OMG, A New Post

Yep, just checking in again to say still STILL BREATHING. Another stroke a couple of weeks after last post led me to retire from my verbally heavy & travel heavy ministry, but I'm still working full-time in dining service administration at OBU.

Still sarcastic, a little grumpier -- what's that, dear? OK, a LOT grumpier -- and a bit irritated with still having to put up with life down here. Would like it better Up There, I'm sure.

Facebooking and Tweeting all the time, don't know why I don't delete this blog. I will someday. One of those things I should do today that I will put off until tomorrow -- like doing my taxes, or becoming a better person.

If you've got some kind of long-forgotten connection to this blog that reminds you when I do a new post, well surprise! Probably time to disconnect.

Just sayin'.
