I'm So Ashamed

I'm so ashamed -- NO posts in October or November! And, of course, this one embarassingly brief.

Well, that's the way it is in the world of Twitter and Facebook. Each requires much less thought and effort than blogging ... also, much less time. Maybe that's the key. "I tweet because I'm lazy," is not necessarily true. Right? No more than "I blog because I'm superior." Right?

Right?

End of an Era (You're STILL in the Army Now)

They're coming home tomorrow. Well, today already where they are. October 1, Adam and Jemimah say goodbye to Germany.

Yes, they are leaving a beautiful place. They have had so many adventures there, and made so many friends, I know they will miss it ... and be very missed.

But we are very excited that they are getting a stateside posting next, and looking forward to seeing them all -- including Trooper the amazing canine.

And what new adventures await in glamorous, mysterious, cosmopolitan ... El Paso!?

Drunk on Power

By now it should be evident to all that President Obama and the Democrats are drunk on power, and they are about to hit-and-run the America we know and cripple her forever if the American people don't take the car keys away from them right now.

While we watched several news reports this evening on how stupidly the Democrats are acting toward the people who elected them, my wife wondered how they could be acting in such foolhardy and self-destructive ways. "They're drunk on power," I said. It just popped out. I didn't have to think about it. So it must be pretty obvious, really. It would be slapstick hilarious if it were a farce on Broadway; but it's Reality TV night after night, and it's happening to our country.

The President and the Democrats are a bunch of power-drunk hipocrites. When President Bush and the Republicans were in control, the Democrats howled mercilessly about abuses of power and Oval Office arrogance, and did everything and anything they could to curb the power of the president, his administration, and his party. Now that they are in power, they howl and whine and scream even louder about anyone -- even the American people! -- who dares question, challenge, or impede their use of power.

Why are they acting so stupidly? They have been made foolhardy by the rich wine of power. They've got the power now, and by God, they are going to use it! It was Henry Kissinger, an icon of a Republican administration excoriated for its hubris (and an unusually unattractive man who dated uncommonly attractive women) who said, "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." (NY Times, 10/28/1973).

So, Barack and Nancy and Harry and their whole left-leaning gang are thoroughly inebriated and need no Viagra. "Change You Can Believe In" has become "Change We're Going To Ram Down Your Bleeping Throats." The promised Most Transparent Administration In History is yelling "SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!" at the American people.

The Town Halls uproar may be a little unseemly, but it's as American as it gets. It's America refusing to sit down and shut up. It's America shouting back, "BY GOD, YOU'RE GOING TO LISTEN TO US!"

It's America trying to get the car keys back-- before it's too late.

God bless you, America! God save us, America!

Camp Meme, Day 7

After all this time, I have discovered that MeMe is spelled Meme. Just pay attention to Tanya's blog. Duh.

Her blog is where you will find comprehensive daily reports on Camp Meme -- not the dribs and drabs you get here. Click the link on the right.

Yesterday, Day 6, I took the boys on the mandatory trip to the Clark County Library. We go almost every time they visit. They always say hi to the Civil War cannon. They check out books and videos or DVDs. Yesterday we stayed much longer than usual, an hour or more, and Wylie read an entire book to Miles. Before we left, we went upstairs to the 2nd floor loft area and they each dropped a flip-flop to the floor below. Then we got out of there!
Today, Day 7, is the last day of Camp Meme 2009. Tomorrow we load up and go to Hot Springs Village for a family gathering where we will hand the boys back to their well-rested parents.

We get to rest next week -- with 5 nights of Vacation Bible School at FBC Emmet.

Camp MeMe Day 3

Days 2 & 3 of Camp MeMe 2009 have flown by. Day 2 (Sunday) we went to Sunday School & church at First Baptist Emmet. The boys have been there numerous times now, and are known by most of the folks, so I didn't even announce their presence. Then it was lunch at the Eagles Nest and home for the afternoon and evening. The boys baked a delicious loaf of bread and later played a spirited game of baseball in the backyard, big brother Wylie winning 20-7. Little brother Miles hated losing; good for him!

While I worked from 7 to 3 today, they had lots of other fun activities, including making clay whistles from scratch. After a delicious supper of fried chicken and roasted corn on the cob, we went swimming at the Ouachita Baptist University pool. One wall is almost covered by All-America certificates the Tiger Sharks have won. Maybe one or both of these boys will win one someday!

MeMe offers some encouragement.
Wylie is already a great swimmer.
Miles loves the water, too.

Camp MeMe - Day 1

Last summer we instituited a new tradition at our house -- Camp MeMe: a week of real camp-like experiences and adventures for our grandchildren. The first one was so much fun we decided (a) to have a 2nd annual Camp MeMe this summer; and (b) to only have one Camp MeMe per year!

So far, grandsons Wylie and Miles are the only campers; and so far, that's all we can handle! We hope to have more campers in the future. (Hint, hint!)

Today, on Day 1 of Camp MeMe 2009, my employment prevented me from accompanying MeMe to pick up the campers, but daughter Judea went along to help, and the first Camp MeMe activity was to tour the Arkansas Territorial Restoration in Little Rock. MeMe will have pictures on her blog.

Once the campers arrived here, they lost no time in diving in to some free time fun in their room ... after, of course, we had posted the colors and said the pledge of alleigiance. Camp MeMe has begun!

Too Many Lovers

Can't believe I'm neglecting my blog so badly. Twitter and Facebook get what little time I have now. There's no comparison between the amount of free time you have when you're unemployed vs. working full-time, huh?
