Why We're Not Singing in Church
AMEN! This is an article I've meant to write for two or three years. This guy said it better than I could. Put it in all caps to SHOUT at every so-called worship leader in America!
Worship in most modern Baptist churches (I am a Baptist) is abominable. The effort to "improve" it or make it "more relevant" has ruined it.
Particularly, the unnecessary hybridation of classic hymns is insulting and spiritually tone-deaf and condescending to us senior adults. Sing the modern worship songs, and even do the old hymns with a band and lively rhythm/speed, BUT DON'T MESS WITH THE TUNE OR LYRICS! I want to sing at least ONE song each service from start to finish without being unpleasantly and unexpectedly jolted by a new inserted verse, refrain, or bridge.
OK, end of rant. Mr. Lamm said it quite well.
Things go in cycles. I may not live to see it, but I'll be glad when this one's over.
